Queen Beatrix International Airport is Aruba’s primary and only international airport. The airport was formally known as Dakota Field Airport. The airport has a single passenger terminal with parking for more than 12 aircraft of varying size. In 2007 a VIP terminal opened to service private jets and executive airliners. In the Second World War, the United States Air Force used Queen Beatrix International Airport to defend Caribbean shipping lanes and the Panama Canal from German U-Boats.
